Fantasy

Sustained Investigation

How can I change reality into fantasy? My sustained investigation focuses on capturing and creating fairy tales through my photography. Each shoot had a theme, storyline, or character that each model was to portray to make a world behind the photo. Some stories were simple: a prince on an adventure in the woods, an assassin, a witch in a swamp, and a ghost searching for her lost lover. Others were connected, a runaway princess, the thief who stole her crown, and a poet who found the crown and the thief’s staff abandoned. A goal that I had was that I didn’t want the photos to look fake; I didn’t want to add edited magic to create the fantasy; I wanted the models to look like real people who you could pass on the street and have the things that made the fantasy be all physical: their pose, hair, outfit, and background. My favorite part of my SI is that the models featured in my photography are my friends, and I got to create the stories with them, constructing a narrative where they can be more than their everyday selves.
